There are many ways that you can receive an offer for a data entry job scam. Sometimes you fill out something thinking it is something else and you are actually adding your name to a mailing list. The list is purchased and then you begin to receive mailings. Once you are on the mailing list, it is hard to get your name removed.

Data entry opportunity scams use Craigslist, or similar sites, to find people. They post jobs that appear to be very promosing data entry jobs. The jobs are posted by your city and state. As soon as they get your information they add you to the mailing list that is eventually sold. The mailing list will be sold to any purchaser that is looking for people who are looking for online jobs.

When looking at a job on Craigslist, keep this in mind:

  • The job contains no information that would be known only by a resident. Job postings include some information that will key you in to what part of town they are in. Legitimate employers give some information about the area where their company is located because they want to give you as much information as possible to make a decision. They know that once they do contact you as a candidate, you will want to know. A data entry business scam will not have anything that gives you town information in the posting.
  • No point of contact. Job postings have a name and a phone number as a point of reference. If it is a blind ad, it may just give an email address or tell you to send it to Human Resources. A data entry business scam may just have job information and nothing else.
  • When do you start? Data entry business scams will be very vague with start information or appear as if they required you last week. They cater to people who really need a job, but most companies know you give notice to your current employer beforehand. If you don’t give notice, you aren’t the type of employee they want. There is not a real job waiting for you with scam artists so they are unconcerned about that part.

The job ad will sound impressive and you will feel as though the job was made for you. You may have lost your job and really need a new one. Data entry job scams are too good to be true and you will begin to be able to point them out from real jobs. Once you read it, you will send your CV. You will email it out when you first see the posting to get it looked at first. In your mind, you want to be the first in line when in reality there is no opportunity at all. Everything you are feeling at that time is not true because there really isn’t an opportunity. And once they do apply, they are hit with all types of spam in their mailbox and even at the postal address that they put on the resume.
